I am so flippen' excited - you wouldn't believe it!
First is the city: San Miguel de Allende - a smaller city that's pretty much in the center of Mexico....it looks beautiful!
The Casita that we'll be staying in. Casa Carly is the new name of Casa Crayola - and all you have to do is take a look at the website for this place to see why it is (or was) called Casa Crayola! Fantastic!!
Some of the (non-school) things that I can choose to do (on our 2 days "off work") are:
- Visiting Teotihuacan (the Sun Pyramid) - which to me, seems like an incredible experience. We'd spend a full day out there and considering how much I love these sorts of things, this is right up my alley! It's definitely going to go on my top priority "things to do while in Mexico" list.
- There's also the city of Guanajuato - which is a beautiful city full of history (a mummy museum!) that's I'd also like to visit!
- There are also hot water springs that many people were raving about. I have an issue with swimming in an underground cave. I don't care how safe it is - that would be an absolutely terrifying experience for me - so that's outta my books!
The Reason we're going is to visit private programs such as:
- Escuela Rudolf Steiner - A Waldorf based program centered on a naturalistic environment.
- Cristobal Colan Prescolar - a constructivism-based program.
- Carrusel - A Montessori-based program
and some Social Programs such as:
- Casa de Los Angeles - a free daycare and parent support center.
- Santa Julia - an orphanage for girls, latest news is that there are so many in this place that some are sleeping in the outer courtyard under cardboard boxes. :(
- Casa Ayuda - A foster family and preschool center.
- Feed the Hungry - a non-profit organization that hands out roughly 4000 meals in a 5 day week.
- Casa Crecimiento - providing support for children with special needs. Uses water and equine therapy.
- Iree - a school for children with hearing impairments.
So - now that the places that I'll be working in are a little bit more clear, I will ask once again to open your heart and make a donation.
